Public Health Hub News

The Public Health Hub are supporting a Maternal Obesity Conference in April. This event, arranged by Professor Hora Soltani and Doncaster and Bassetlaw NHS Trust, is aimed at health care professionals and will explore evidence and practice issues related to obesity in pregnancy. This event is accredited by the Royal College of Midwives and is now almost fully booked. The programme includes a wide range of speakers with representation from the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), Tommy’s (Bay’s charity), academics and practitioners.

The Student Wellness Project is managed by the Public Health Hub and coordinated by a student graduate. The aim of the Project is to develop a number of opportunities for students to improve their employability and enhance student experience alongside their degree. One element of student wellness is the Hallam Health Champion Programme, using a similar model to the staff wellness service. 16 Hallam Health Champions have been recruited to deliver the project this year.
The aim of the project is to impact the health and wellbeing of those receiving the health checks and healthy lifestyle advice whilst impacting the employability and transferable skills of those delivering it. Over 150 student participants were recruited from November 2013 and evaluation of the study will be available by the end of April 2014.
