The Self Care Forum’s Annual Self Care Conference
Monday 26th September 2016, Royal College of Nursing
Understanding Self Care for Life
Whether it’s self-treatable conditions, self-management, prevention, antibiotic-use, signposting, there is work to be done in improving people health literacy and their capacity to self care. For those tasked with supporting people in these areas, this year’s Self Care Conference is essential. The programme is practical and solutions-based, showcasing self care systems and strategies that can be emulated in various health settings to help improve health provision.
Here are two of the presenters at the conference:
Reena Barai, Independent Community Pharmacist
Award winning independent community pharmacist, Reena Barai will be sharing her experiences of how pharmacy can implement a Make Every Contact Count initiative in the local community.
Reena will present details of how her initiative has helped to make a difference to local people’s health and how this can reduce demand on health services in the area such as general practice and A&E.
The pharmacist is an essential part of the NHS family delivering on signposting, self-treatment, medicines use as well as areas of public health and Reena will demonstrate how commissioners can utilise the expertise of the whole community pharmacy team.
Lisa McNally, Bracknell Forest Council
Localities are increasingly realising the value in working jointly across communities to improve health promotion, reach wider audiences and achieve better outcomes. Since 2011, Bracknell Forest Council and Bracknell and Ascot Clinical Commissioning Group have been initiating joint, award winning campaigns and health promotion, including Self Care Week.
In 2016 they went one step further and began The Year of Self Care and Bracknell’s public health lead, Lisa McNally will be presenting details of this initiative, sharing the pitfalls and the learnings of a year-long campaign.
