NIHR CLAHRC South West Peninsula (PenCLAHRC) are looking to appoint an Associate Professor with demonstrable expertise in health services research. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and support research projects adopted by PenCLAHRC and to identify research and implementation ideas in their own field and develop these into funding proposals and a programme of research.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to become part of a successful and enthusiastic team committed to improving public health and patient outcomes through innovative health research and implementation.  PenCLAHRC’s novel ground-up approach to research, led by patients, clinicians and managers in collaboration with researchers, has led to notable successes and we are determined to build on these.  More than anything, we are dedicated to doing research that makes a difference.  If this sounds like the kind of environment in which you would flourish, and you meet the criteria set out in the job description, we would really like to hear from you.

The post-holder will be based within the Primary Care Group as a key part of Clinical Trials and Populations Studies. Our group has a democratic ethos and a high level of success in attracting funding. You will also work closely with the PenCLAHRC team based in Exeter and have opportunities to build partnerships with leading health services researchers across both universities. Relocation expenses are available for the successful candidate.

Applicants will hold a postgraduate academic qualification in a relevant field, usually a doctorate or recognised equivalent qualification and be nationally recognised in health services research. Demonstrable experience of formal leadership and management roles is essential as is a strong track record of attracting significant research funding and delivering high-quality outputs using that funding.

We are keen to develop Principal Investigator capacity within our areas of strength, namely mental health, health promotion, person centred approaches, inequalities and care for individuals with multi-morbidity or long term conditions. We also welcome applicants with portfolios from other areas such as dementia, obesity, neurological conditions, acute admissions, inter-professional working, care homes, information technology, implementation science and other areas of significant importance to the NHS and social care agenda. This role will be expected to undertake formal leadership and management responsibilities, in addition to leading your own programme of work.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 5th June 2016. Interviews are expected to take place on Monday 27th June. The position is full-time and will be based in Plymouth. It is available on a permanent basis.
