The NIHR Patient and Public and Engagement (PPIE) Lead will take the strategy lead on PPIE activities for key research activities, including the NIHR CLAHRC West Midlands initiative (

The NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care West Midlands (CLAHRC WM) is a research initiative funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and through matched funds from health and social care partners.

The overarching aim of the CLAHRC WM is to undertake high-quality applied health research focused on the local needs of patients in the West Midlands and to support the translation of research evidence into practice in our local NHS. We have an overarching ambition to combine the Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) that informs service development and delivery, together with the PPI that informs the research and evaluation activity carried-out to identify the impact of any changes applied to those services.

Patient and Public Involvement, Engagement and Public Awareness and Participation are important dimensions of PPIE. The post holder will lead on all aspects of PPIE including these key dimensions. This requires building and maintaining excellent relationships with diverse groups of patients and carers, patient and carer organisations, third sector organisations, faith organisations, and other stakeholders in the local health and social care economy.
